The Virtual World MOOC 2023 Starts Today!

Back in the saddle with the VWMOOC series

Those of you who know me know that I have been involved in a free course on virtual world education (and this year also on virtual reality, AI etc) since 2014, a year after I started with Northcentral University, now merged with National University (San Diego).

My favorite part of the VWMOOC course is the presenters. The course lasts through the end of September for those who want to check out the Zoom broadcasts, watch the recordings of a variety of meetings, tours, and lectures on the Virtual World MOOC playlist on YouTube, or take the free PD course from September 1st through October 31st on Dr. Nellie Deustch’s Moodle installation at integrating-technology.org.

The course has been going on since 2014, and I have been a student, organizer, and occasional lecturer for most of that time.

I find the creativity of the group of global educators from middle school through university and master’s through doctoral levels in a variety of disciplines inspiring. The community of practice is very international and very energetic in their various academic disciplines and teaching.

For anybody who is interested, here is the link to the Google doc that includes the presenters’ biographies, the YouTube playlist for the recordings, the Zoom link for the real-time broadcasts of the lectures, tours, and events (lots of music and two virtual dances, one of which I host …), and other material: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1gHlt_d-h7gb98OkHyOLkixj_B8WtcML…

The VWMooc Facebook page and the VWMOOC2023 Playlist on YouTube are also great ways to get more information as well.

If you have colleagues in the education department, please pass the info on.

The live sessions (38 of them so far) will take place between 9 a.m. Pacific today and September 30th. The free PD course will also start today and continue through October 31st with assignments that will get you the certificate of completion for the course.

My colleagues and long-time friends who are behind this yearly free course are Dr. Nellie Deutsch (ESL/EFL, Canada, and integrating-technology.org), Dr. Doris Molero (ESL/EFT, Argentina), Dr. Valerie Hill (Librarianship, curator of the Community Virtual Libary at communityvirtuallibrary.org, and this year, me.

I highly recommend dipping a toe into the events for inspiration.
